Watch Kit Pro ships with a set of 18 premade watch faces, which we call the Gallery. Each watch face can be further customised: with a colorway (or a permutation thereof), or changing the design of the watch hands or dial. There are billions of combinations.
To switch to a Gallery watch face in Watch Kit Pro, access Settings, then choose Configure Watch Face Preset, then Gallery.
You can further switch the colorway: access Settings, then choose Configure Watch Face Preset, then Configure Colors and Materials, then Colorway. Previews of various colorways are supplied below, but you can customise these even more.
The full, up-to-date list of Watch Kit Pro preset watch faces is available in the source code: https://github.com/calroth/watch-kit-pro/blob/master/Wearable/src/main/res/values/strings.xml
For your viewing pleasure, a preview of each follows:
Watch Kit Pro 🄰 Mono
Default for: Watch Kit Pro, slot 🄰
Initial colorway: Pacific Sunset
Description: The first watch face you'll see, something we selected to represent Watch Kit Pro as a whole. We wanted to make it colorful but not gaudy; interesting but restrained; detailed but not complicated. But above all, inviting. Wear this as your standard everyday carry, and please enjoy!
Watch Kit Pro 🄱 Burst
Default for: Watch Kit Pro, slot 🄱
Initial colorway: Amethyst Amber
Description: The second watch face you'll see. We selected something to demonstrate the possibilities of Watch Kit Pro. So let's stretch things a little further. More color! Smaller bits! Weirder proportions...
Watch Kit Pro 🄲 Miles
Default for: Watch Kit Pro, slot 🄲
Initial colorway: Country Club
Description: We selected a design that felt a little bit more classic, but with some modern smartwatch hints. The colors aren't a traditional watch palette, but they are traditional. Balanced towards "less" and a simpler layout. Of course, if you change the colorway then things start picking up...
Watch Kit Pro 🄳 Hyper
Default for: Watch Kit Pro, slot 🄳
Initial colorway: Pacific Sunset
Description: This is where it all started: the first watch face I ever coded. I wanted something that would highlight the strengths of the smartwatch format, which were new and unique; rather than an insipid clone of a classic mechanical watch. More background here. Iterations of this design hung on my wrist for a few months before I decided we should try making it a bit more configurable... a lot more configurable.
Initial colorway: Neon Eyes
Description: Like eyes from the deep.
Initial colorway: Ancient Tome
Description: Every country has its legendary engineers; for Australia, one is John J. C. Bradfield. In the late 1800's and early 1900's he engineered the Sydney Harbour Bridge, much of Sydney's rail network, the Story Bridge in Brisbane, and other vast and interesting schemes. We designed this watch face to be angular, technical, and art deco in Bradfield's honour.
Initial colorway: Tourmaline
Description: An informal, bubbly type of watch face for casual days when most of all you feel is pink.
Initial colorway: Palladium
Description: A carillon is a building-sized musical instrument: a bell tower with dozens of tuned bells, on which one may play melodies that can be heard for miles around. There's probably one near you, but if not, there's one near us—the National Carillon, Canberra.
Initial colorway: Medallion
Description: A generous, humanist watch face that your great-grandparents might have worn.
Den of Lions
Initial colorway: Aureolin
21 Then Daniel spoke with the king: “May the king live forever. 22 My God sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths; and they haven’t harmed me, for I was found innocent before him. And also before you, Your Majesty, I have not done harm.”
23 The king was overjoyed and gave orders to take Daniel out of the den. When Daniel was brought up from the den, he was found to be unharmed, for he trusted in his God.
(Daniel 6:21-23, CSB)
From Inside Out
Initial colorway: Applied Patina
Description: Your watch is rusting... from the inside, out. Haha. I'm hilarious.
Initial colorway: Sonic Shock
Description: Hypnosis, the art and science of sending you into a sleep-like trance state, from whence you may gain powers of concentration but also become prone to suggestion. This watch face, we'd imagine on a pocket-watch on a chain swinging before your eyes, back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth...
In One Spirit
Initial colorway: Lavender Rose
18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So, then, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with the saints, and members of God’s household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.
(Ephesians 2:18-20, CSB)
Initial colorway: Via Lactea
Description: A big, diamond-studded watch face for astrophysicists; those people whose minds roam the biggest, most diamond-studded thing of all.
Initial colorway: Dust Storm
Description: Australia is big, and also very empty. Most people live in big cities on the coast. But the outback is an expanse of beautiful, arid deserts. This colorway is inspired the open skies, the wildlife and the harsh landscapes of the interior. Beyond the black stump lies this place. Come and visit!
Initial colorway: Ghost Rider
Description: Dedicated to Project Stealth Fighter, a C64 game which my friend Dean gifted me in year 6. It was a flight simulator of the rumoured "F-19 Stealth Fighter", and was novel in that it had you sneaking your way past enemy defences to complete mission objectives. It came with a user manual so technical that I devoured it, then did a school project on the basics of powered flight, then spent my teenage years reading Tom Clancy techno-thrillers. Thanks, Dean!
Initial colorway: Mutagen
Description: Some watches have rings of stainless steel, studded with rivets and screws and other industrial-technical widgets. Some watches don't, but you wish they did. This watch face is for you.
Initial colorway: Sun Conure
Description: A long time ago, we were contributor developers for a multi-player Internet text adventure game. The founder was brilliant (I think he ended up at Google) and he wrote reams of low level game code on which we lesser mortals built our creations. Anyhow in the depths of the basic room code, in a comment he wrote a poem on his love of strawberries. This watch face is unrelated.
